Please come and say hi! I'd also like to take the opportunity to mention I've been really bussy with real work (the type that helps pay the bills) so that's why you haven't seen much updates here lately. Still creative steam has been piling up and you'll be able to see tons of new stuff around. Also If you've sent me an email and haven't heard back from me yet, please, please ping me again. I've just spent the last 3 days replying to old emails and I'm not through even half of it yet.

ARS Electronica 2004

Ars so far looks pretty cool. The award ceremony took place last night, the 5 golden nicas where given out to the winners and right before the closing of it they got us and all the other award of distincion winners, to the stage for a final applause. We hooked up later with some friends from tokyo and went out for drinks and "event hopping" Best thing so far was the Manual Input Sessions by Tmema last night. Yesterday we went to the Ok center to check out where newsmap was being exhibited, and dropped by to stare to Listening Post. So far this has been the best of ARS for me, amazingly well finished and setup, superbly executed. Going into the room where it is exhibited is like entering a church, you just can't help but sit down and stare. We stayed there for at least 40 minutes. Later we went to see Apparition, an amazing performance by the DAMPF_lab. This morning I participated in the panel for the winners of the Net Vision category. We stayed up almost all night with Dan who was helping me polish up my presentation and slides. Luckily the feedback I got once I finished was not that bad:) Still I'm sure it could have been better. Next to me Lawrence Lessig talked about all the ideas behind creative commons, and right before he left I grabed him to get my physical copy of Free Culture signed. yay! ok, got to run to a presentation now. more soon...

byebye Stuttgart

flashconference was a blast, luckily everything went pretty well... well, almost, connection speed was fairly slow, and some of the projects that I wanted to show where using streamed video feeds. I should have thought about that and pre-recorded all projects. Still everyone seemed to leave very happy in both presentations. Thanks to everyone who was there, Mario, Jasmine, Carlo, Wolfgang, Kristina, it was really fun hanging out with you guys:)

flashconference 2004, germany

I will be giving 2 presentations in the upcoming flashconference in Stuttgart, Germany (May 6th - 7th). First session will be on "Expression through information visualization", where I'll talk about metabolic applications that harvest, visualize and communicate hidden patterns within large ammounts of information. The second one I will try to introduce the audience to works in the japanese web scene that may have been unaccessible to the german audience because of the language barrier. Unluckilly I don't speak german, so my workshops will be in english. Still, I should probably get some of that in practice... ahem, ich habe durst. Wo kann ich ein gutes Bier erhalten? aha! jaaaah. uh, also it's my first time ever in germany, so if you have any suggestions on where I should go; you know, those hidden gems that only locals ever know, drop me a line! Sehe dich dort !

MAX 2004 - Japan

We'll be speaking together with Yuji about Flash and Coldfusion integration in the forthcoming MAX 2004 conference here in Tokyo. We will basically be giving a detailed intro in Coldfusion, Remoting and Database Integration and later dissecting Habitat Perspectives explaining how we grab GPS coordinates and images from cellphones and visualize that from the web in Flash. We will be giving it in japanese, but still it's going to be pretty visual, focusing on flash users with little or zero experience in Coldfusion and Database integration in the attempt to demistify that Databases cannot be used creatively and should only be touched by engineers. It's going to be tons of fun, so if you happen to be around, do not hesitate to drop by! more over here

Siggraph 2003 San Diego - the aftermath

Below I post some of the works I was able to assist to and found mostly interesting at Siggraph last month. This are presentations/installations I assisted in the first 3 days. Considering that this is a huge event, and the fact that I missed the last 2, this is probably less than 1% of what happened there this year. Emerging technologies. every work in this pavillion was really inspiring, these are some of them: The Augmented Composer Project: the Music Table Body Brush - review at cnn ElectAura-Net Food Simulator - review at bbc The Dimension Book The OmniGlobe; a selph contained spherical display system Real time motion capture for Interactive Entertainment Presentations: ILM on creature critters & clones Computer Animation Festival All of it was awesome - I should have bought the DVD!!! Courses Building Physical Interfaces; Making Computer Graphics Interactive Cross Cultural User-Interface Design Papers TreeJuxtaposer What I whish I could have seen: All web graphics presentations. Augmented Reality presenbtation by Nasa Ames Resarch Center Computer Graphics for Large-scale Inmersive theaters Finding Nemo; Story, Art, Technology and Triage - a presentation by Pixar Studios All art installations starting on the 4th day The Matrix Revealed - presentation on Reloaded SFX backstage. As you can see, the scale of this event is huge. I will make sure next year in L.A. I assist to the full 5 days of it. Not a single minute can be wasted there. Of course, if you are a digital craftsman be sure to submit your work there! deadlines are probably closing in january, and if your work is selected, among others, you may get passes for the full conference!
